Jakarta, September 13, 2024 – In support of national food security, PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has partnered with the Attorney General's Office to boost urban farming productivity in DKI Jakarta. This collaboration includes guidance on cultivation, fertilizer assistance, and agricultural services for 31 urban farming groups, as delivered on Friday (13/9/2024) in Jakarta.

Pupuk Indonesia's Marketing Director, Tri Wahyudi Saleh, stated that the company has numerous programs to support national food security, one of which is optimizing the potential of urban farming in DKI Jakarta.

"Urban farming plays a crucial role in food security. This is the right moment, as we are now entering the planting season. Today, we are providing around 6 tons of urea and 6 tons of NPK fertilizers, along with a mobile soil testing facility," he explained.

Tri mentioned that Pupuk Indonesia's first contribution was through its Mobile Soil Testing Service (MUT), which checks the fertility of the land cultivated by the farming groups. Following the soil analysis, Pupuk Indonesia provided fertilizers based on the specific needs of the plants. The assistance includes 6,300 kilograms of non-subsidized Urea Nitrea fertilizer and 6,300 kilograms of non-subsidized NPK Phonska fertilizer.

"We first checked the soil conditions here. Thankfully, the soil is quite good, with a pH level of 6 to 7. However, the soil here is deficient in nitrogen, so we are providing urea fertilizer, while the phosphate and potassium levels are adequate," Tri Wahyudi said.

Through the guidance and MUT services, Pupuk Indonesia also aims to educate urban farmers on balanced fertilization and introduce more modern and precise farming techniques. "We are training farmers, teaching them not to fertilize carelessly. There's a process in farming—when to fertilize and how much is needed," he added.

Furthermore, Tri emphasized that the collaboration with the Attorney General's Office of DKI Jakarta is expected to be ongoing, benefiting other farming groups in DKI Jakarta and throughout Indonesia. Urban farming, he believes, can become a significant contributor to national food security.

"Today, we are assisting 31 farming groups from five regions in DKI Jakarta. We will continue this collaboration and not stop here. We aim to educate the farmers in these groups, with land spread across several areas," he concluded.

The event was also attended by Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono; Head of the Training and Education Agency of the Attorney General's Office, Rudi Margono; Acting Head of the Attorney General’s Office of DKI Jakarta, Danang Suryo Wibowo; Assistant for Civil and State Administration Affairs (Asdatun) of the DKI Jakarta Attorney General's Office, Badrut Tamam; and President Director of PAM Jaya, Arief Nasrudin.

In his remarks, the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta praised Pupuk Indonesia’s urban farming program for Jakarta residents, noting that it offers a solution for food security.

"Citizens should make the most of the land they own to support national food security. We hope that Pupuk Indonesia’s program can be expanded to other communities in DKI to further develop urban farming," he said.

In the same event, Head of the Training and Education Agency of the Attorney General's Office, Rudi Margono, highlighted the Attorney General’s presence in the fertilizer and seed distribution event, aimed at providing legal support to ensure corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs align with governance regulations. He urged state-owned enterprises (SOEs), regional-owned enterprises (BUMDs), and private companies to implement CSR programs that include both guidance and welfare improvement efforts.

"CSR is an obligation for every SOE and private company, in accordance with applicable regulations. Each year, they must allocate a budget for CSR activities. Pupuk Indonesia and PAM Jaya, as representatives of SOEs and BUMDs, are providing guidance through their CSR programs in accordance with these regulations. Why is the Attorney General's Office here? To strengthen the network supporting agricultural intensification. Although we don’t have agricultural land, we are initiating CSR utilization and providing legal guidance so that CSR managers can operate with confidence, knowing they are adhering to good governance," Rudi concluded.
