Jakarta, August 23, 2024 – President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Rahmad Pribadi, announced that Pupuk Indonesia Group is committed to supporting the program to convert fuel-powered motorcycles to electric motorcycles, launched by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). This program is part of accelerating the Battery Electric Vehicle (KLBB) ecosystem to achieve a cleaner and more sustainable future.

The Ministry of ESDM plans to convert 1,000 fuel-powered motorcycles to electric motorcycles at no cost, with the program being available to residents in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek). Rahmad stated that Pupuk Indonesia Group is ready to support this initiative.

“As a state-owned enterprise, we naturally support the electric vehicle conversion program, which is part of the transition to Battery Electric Vehicles that will be utilized by both the public and for the operational and personal use of Pupuk Indonesia Group employees,” Rahmad explained.

The Ministry of ESDM will implement the conversion program in phases, with 500 units being converted in the first phase and the remaining 500 units in the second phase.

To date, Pupuk Indonesia Group has supported the conversion of 300 fuel-powered motorcycles to electric motorcycles, benefiting both the local community and students and teachers at vocational schools near the company’s operations. Specifically, Pupuk Indonesia converted 60 motorcycles, PT Petrokimia Gresik 80 units, PT Pupuk Kujang 20 units, PT Pupuk Kaltim 100 units, and PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang 40 units.

In support of this program, Pupuk Indonesia has partnered with PT Wika Industri Manufaktur (WIMA), a key player in the electric vehicle industry in Indonesia. As of now, Pupuk Indonesia Group operates 280 electric motorcycles across its subsidiaries, including Pupuk Kaltim, Pupuk Iskandar Muda, Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang, Rekayasa Industri, Pupuk Indonesia Niaga, Pupuk Indonesia Utilitas, and Pupuk Indonesia Logistik. These motorcycles are used for operational purposes by Pupuk Indonesia's marketing staff from Sabang to Merauke.

“All of these electric motorcycles are utilized for operational activities within the company, both in the factories and by our marketing teams, particularly Account Executives (AE) and Assistant Account Executives (AAE). This allows Pupuk Indonesia to contribute to realizing a clean and sustainable future,” Rahmad concluded.

At the same event, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Dadan Kusdiana, expressed his appreciation for Pupuk Indonesia and all stakeholders who have supported the conversion program and the use of electric motorcycles within the company. The conversion of each motorcycle requires a budget of IDR 16 million, with the Ministry of ESDM providing IDR 10 million and the remainder being supported by the company.

He highlighted that the use of battery-powered electric vehicles can save costs and support a cleaner and more sustainable future. He illustrated that 1 liter of fuel produces 2.5 kilograms (kg) of CO2 emissions, whereas a battery-powered electric motorcycle generates 1 kg of emissions per 1 kWh. Additionally, in terms of costs, each kWh of electricity costs around IDR 2,400, compared to IDR 13,700 per liter of fuel.
