JAKARTA - PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) continues to increase the competitiveness of the national fertilizer production process by adopting environmentally friendly technology that is more efficient in energy consumption. This effort was carried out through the Ammonia-2 factory revamping project which was run by one of its subsidiaries, namely PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (PKT).

This development was stated in the signing of the Revamping Ammonia Plant-2 Project EPC Contract Signing Ceremony which was carried out by the President Director of Pupuk Kaltim, Budi Wahju Soesilo with the President Director & CEO of Tripatra Engineers & Constructor Raymond Naldi Rasfuldi and witnessed directly by the President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) Rahmad Pribadi and Chairman of the Board of Pupuk Kaltim, Eka Sastra, Wednesday (1/11/2023).

"This collaboration on revamping ammonia plant-2 is very important considering that the current world challenges require us all to be more efficient, more competitive, more profitable, and at the same time must be more environmentally friendly because a less carbon society or less carbon economy is a necessity," said President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, Rahmad Pribadi.

Rahmad hopes that the development or revamping of Pupuk Kaltim's ammonia plant-2 will become an example for national fertilizer industry players in increasing efficiency at old factories. "I appreciate the hard work of the Pupuk Kaltim team and the Tripatra team who have succeeded in reaching this point. "This program is very good because it not only increases efficiency, but also reduces carbon emissions so that it becomes an example in Indonesia, where existing inefficient facilities can be made more efficient and environmentally friendly," he added.

Meanwhile, the President Director of Pupuk Kaltim, Budi Wahju Soesilo, stated that the development or revamping of Pupuk Kaltim's ammonia plant-2 will adopt low-energy technology so that the factory, which is targeted for completion at the end of 2025, is more efficient and environmentally friendly.

"This is the oldest factory in Pupuk Kaltim which has been operating since 1984. This revamping was carried out so that the Pupuk Kaltim 2 ammonia factory, which currently has very high energy consumption, can be more efficient by changing the technological facilities used. This can increase the competitiveness of urea and ammonia products in Pupuk Kaltim, so that they are expected to be able to compete in the global market," said Budi.

Budi Wahju stated that this revamping project is in line with ESG principles which are a priority for Pupuk Kaltim in pursuing green transformation in Indonesia. Through the development of technological facilities used at the Pupuk Kaltim factory, the company is trying to be more efficient in reducing energy consumption. Of course, this is also a manifestation of the commitment to continue creating more competitive and sustainable products while striving to reduce emissions from Pupuk Kaltim's production.

“Pupuk Kaltim continues to carry out various initiatives to support the achievement of decarbonization targets through several programs. Starting from the construction of a soda ash factory, a community forest (a tree planting program involving the community), the use of renewable energy sources, one of which is exploring clean ammonia technology, to an old factory renewal project that can reduce energy consumption. "This decarbonization effort targets a 32 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 as a form of support for the government's program to achieve Net Zero Emissions," said Budi Wahju.

President Director & CEO of PT Tripatra Engineers & Constructors, Raymond Naldi Rasfuldi appreciates Pupuk Kaltim and Pupuk Indonesia for giving Tripatra the opportunity to revamp or update the ammonia plant-2. "Of course, this collaboration is an honor for us to be able to synergize with Pupuk Kaltim and Pupuk Indonesia. God willing, we can meet again in the next 24 months to celebrate our success together. This is the success of Pupuk Indonesia, Pupuk Kaltim and Tripatra. "This is Indonesia's success, to be able to repair and improve existing facilities to remain competitive and follow existing regulations regarding emissions that are currently being implemented in Indonesia," concluded Raymond.
