Bogor, November 7, 2024 – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has committed to supporting and contributing to the realization of food self-sufficiency, a key agenda initiated by the Merah Putih Cabinet led by President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The company plans to implement adaptive, innovative, and sustainable strategies.

This commitment was conveyed by Pupuk Indonesia's Deputy CEO, Gusrizal, during a Book Talk Roadshow event that featured the book “Elephant Learns Flamenco: Agile SOEs Dancing Toward Golden Indonesia 2045” at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

As one of the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) with a strategic role in the food sector, Gusrizal emphasized that Pupuk Indonesia has already established a program aimed at supporting food self-sufficiency, known as the Makmur Program. “The MAKMUR Program represents our commitment to building food resilience in Indonesia. With the government's support and close collaboration with farmers, we hope to help optimize harvests and achieve sustainable food self-sufficiency,” stated Gusrizal.

Launched by the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, in August 2021, the MAKMUR Program connects farmers to an agricultural ecosystem that facilitates access to fertilizers and funding. This ecosystem includes project leaders, insurance providers, financial institutions, agricultural technology providers, agro-input suppliers, local governments, and offtakers.

Through this program, Pupuk Indonesia actively provides mentoring, training, and technological assistance to farmers to boost their agricultural output. This collaborative and empowerment-based approach supports farmers not only in terms of productivity but also in improving income and welfare.

To support the pursuit of food self-sufficiency in Indonesia, Pupuk Indonesia is ready to innovate and collaborate with various stakeholders. “Pupuk Indonesia continues to develop innovations, including digitalization programs and collaborations with farmers and the government, to address the challenges of future food self-sufficiency,” Gusrizal explained during his presentation.

As an agribusiness company, Pupuk Indonesia recognizes the importance of supporting the government's food self-sufficiency initiatives. Achieving this goal requires collective efforts and cooperation from all stakeholders. Pupuk Indonesia’s contributions are focused on two main strategies: ensuring the *availability* and *affordability* of fertilizers for farmers.

Availability: Ensuring Fertilizer Supply Nationwide

Pupuk Indonesia is committed to guaranteeing the availability of fertilizers by increasing production capacity through the construction of new plants and the revitalization of existing ones, alongside efficient distribution. A concrete measure taken by the company includes the implementation of an end-to-end digital system for the production and distribution process, known as I-Pubers.

The I-Pubers system enables Pupuk Indonesia to monitor and control the entire distribution chain, ensuring that fertilizers are delivered timely and in accordance with the needs of farmers across various regions.

“Digitalization across the process chain allows us to enhance efficiency, reduce distribution errors, and ensure the availability of fertilizers when farmers need them. This is crucial for supporting productivity and sustainability in the national agricultural sector,” Gusrizal emphasized.

Affordability: Maintaining Affordable Prices for Farmers

In addition to ensuring supply, Pupuk Indonesia strives to keep fertilizer prices affordable for farmers. One aspect that supports price affordability is the cost of raw materials, particularly gas. Pupuk Indonesia appreciates the government's implementation of the Specific Natural Gas Price (HGBT) policy. Given that gas costs account for approximately 70% of urea production expenses and 5% for NPK, access to lower-priced gas significantly helps Pupuk Indonesia maintain affordable fertilizer prices.

Pupuk Indonesia participated in the Book Talk Roadshow featuring the book *“Elephant Learns Flamenco: Agile SOEs Dancing Toward Golden Indonesia 2045”* at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB). This event was part of a broader roadshow series organized and initiated by the Indonesia Brand Forum (IBF). Under the central theme “Togetherness & Competitiveness,” the roadshow highlighted the strategic role of SOEs in various sectors to achieve the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
