Jakarta, September 28, 2024 – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) and its subsidiaries, including PT Petrokimia Gresik, PT Pupuk Kalimantan Timur (Pupuk Kaltim), and PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang, have consistently supported the development and success of national weightlifting. Their positive contribution led to Indonesia's gold medal victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Pupuk Indonesia’s Corporate Secretary, Wijaya Laksana, expressed pride and appreciation for the company's sponsored athletes who achieved top honors at the world’s prestigious quadrennial event. The gold medal marks a historic first for Indonesia in Olympic weightlifting, a sport the country has competed in since 1952.

"National achievements, particularly in sports, are the responsibility of many. As a state-owned enterprise, Pupuk Indonesia is proud to have contributed to elevating Indonesia's reputation through the success of our weightlifting athletes at the Paris Olympics. This accomplishment motivates us to further enhance our contribution to the advancement of national weightlifting," said Wijaya.

Since 2022, Pupuk Indonesia has supported the training and development of weightlifting athletes by organizing national championships for both junior and senior levels. Most recently, Pupuk Indonesia hosted the 2024 Youth U15-U17 National Weightlifting Championships in Bandung, from August 1 to 4, attracting hundreds of athletes from various provinces. The next event, the Junior National Championships, is scheduled for October in Solo.

"We hope that these championships will produce new talented athletes from across the country. This also demonstrates Pupuk Indonesia's commitment to the sustainability and regeneration of weightlifting excellence in Indonesia," Wijaya added.

The athlete who secured the Olympic gold was Rizki Juniansyah, who triumphed in the men’s 73 kg category. The 21-year-old lifter achieved a total lift of 354 kg, consisting of a 155 kg snatch and a 199 kg clean and jerk. Rizki’s clean and jerk lift set a new Olympic record.

Rizki is a product of the 2023 Pupuk Indonesia Senior National Weightlifting Championships, alongside fellow athletes Nurul Akmal and Eko Yuli Irawan, who also represented Indonesia at the Paris Olympics. Rizki's achievement is expected to inspire other Indonesian weightlifters to strive for success at both national and international levels.

"The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises of Indonesia, Erick Thohir, consistently encourages state-owned companies to contribute to sports development and achievements across the country. Rizki’s international success has had a positive impact on Pupuk Indonesia, which remains committed to advancing weightlifting in Indonesia," Wijaya concluded.
