Pupuk Indonesia Introduces Blue & Green Ammonia at AIPF 2023
JAKARTA - PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) will introduce the development of blue ammonia and green ammonia at the ASEAN Indo Pacific Forum (AIPF) 2023 which will be held in Jakarta on 5-6 September 2023. The implementation of AIPF 2023 itself is the responsibility of BUMN Minister Erick Thohir and an integral part of the series of activities at the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
Pupuk Indonesia's SVP Corporate Secretary, Wijaya Laksana, said that apart from strengthening the national fertilizer industry, Pupuk Indonesia will also focus on the chemical industry and business. Especially blue ammonia and green ammonia, because both of them will become a source of clean energy in the future and support the energy transition discourse.
"The development of this clean ammonia is part of business diversification as well as supporting the downstreaming of the national hydrogen industry to provide added value to the national economy," explained Wijaya, Friday (1/9/2023).
In the AIPF 2023 event, continued Wijaya, Pupuk Indonesia will present four clean ammonia development projects. Starting from the development of blue ammonia and Ammonia-Urea on Yamdena Island, in collaboration with INPEX from Japan. Then the development of blue ammonia in the Pupuk Iskandar Muda (PIM) area in Aceh with Mitsui who also comes from Japan.
Furthermore, Pupuk Indonesia will also present a hybrid green ammonia development project at Petrokimia Gresik in collaboration with PLN and ACWA Power Company from Saudi Arabia. And also the hybrid green ammonia development project at Pupuk Iskandar Muda in collaboration with Toyo and Mitsui from Japan in Lhokseumawe, Aceh.
With this development project, continued Wijaya, Pupuk Indonesia has great potential to become a world-class clean ammonia player. Moreover, Pupuk Indonesia has experience in producing, distributing and managing ammonia for more than fifty years.
"Especially now that environmental issues are becoming a global issue, Pupuk Indonesia must enter into a more environmentally friendly business. For this reason, Pupuk Indonesia is open to partnering with various parties. Moreover, the need for clean ammonia in the future will increase, "explained Wijaya.
In addition to providing clean energy for the future, green ammonia itself can also be a very efficient means of distributing hydrogen. Because hydrogen is a form of renewable energy which is currently also a concern of many countries in the world.
The development of blue ammonia and green ammonia itself has been included in Pupuk Indonesia's decarbonization roadmap. This program is in line with and supports the government's strategic initiative in achieving a target of zero carbon emissions by 2060.
The involvement of various domestic and foreign partners has also contributed to improving the investment climate and providing added value to the community. For example, opening up jobs, using domestic component levels (TKDN), mastering knowledge and technology, and producing import substitute products such as methanol and soda ash.
"So in the future Pupuk Indonesia will continue to strengthen the fertilizer industry to support food security, besides that it will also become a national chemical and petrochemical company that supports the national energy industry and supply," concluded Wijaya.
